The purpose of the Past Presidents Parley (PPP) committee is to utilize the experience and knowledge of past Auxiliary leaders for training and encouragement of future Auxiliary leaders. Through the Past Presidents Parley committee, women who have served as unit, department, and national presidents have an opportunity to continue in active service to the Auxiliary, helping ensure strong future leadership for the organization . The Past Presidents Parley also recognizes and honors outstanding unit members through Unit Member of the Year , and female veterans through the Salute to Servicewomen awards.
Member of the Year award, unit member is chosen for her accomplishments in her own unit during the current year. She will be recognized at the American Legion Auxiliary Convention. Requirements: 1. Open to senior members who are not in an elected or appointed leadership role higher than unit president. 2. Each department may submit only one entry. Units must submit a narrative of 1,000 words or less describing the nominee’s accomplishments and activities together with the nominee’s name and address. Entry forms can be obtained on the Department website.
Female veterans through the Salute to Servicewomen award. This award has evolved from honoring women veterans to honoring woman currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces (includes National Guard/Reserve). Requirements : o A written narrative or YouTube video that demonstrates exemplary service both in and out of uniform, making her the face of women in the military. o Servicewoman must be willing to be a guest of the Auxiliary and speak to the general assembly of th American Legion Auxiliary Convention. o All nomination forms must be submitted by June 1, 2020. The nominating person or the servicewoman writes a narrative (750 words or less) or creates a YouTube video (3 minutes or less) that shows the nominated servicewoman demonstrating exemplary service both in and out of uniform, making her the face of women in the military. o The form must be completed and submitted by date designated.
Nursing Scholarship: The Department of California offers a Nursing scholarship Application through the Parley, this support is intended for a man or woman who is educationally working toward becoming a nurse. Units are urged to continue to provide scholarships for student nurses. Our efforts in this area are important and help to relieve the nursing shortages as well as improve the quality of health care.
Promote the Auxiliary Unit Member of the Year
She is chosen for her accomplishments in her own Unit during the current year. She will not attain any other office outside of the Unit. She will give unselfishly of her time and talents with little or no recognition.Units of the American Legion Auxiliary all have hard working dedicated members who give of their time and talent to further the aims and purposes of our organization, but have no desire to serve beyond the Unit level. In order to recognize such dedicated service each Unit may select one candidate for Unit Member of the Year in their Department. Each Department will select the Unit Member of the Year for that Department who will be honored at the National Convention. Contact Department Headquarters for further information.
Salute to an Active Duty Service Woman or Woman Veteran
A service woman from each branch of service will be recognized during the Department Convention.
- Nominees should be willing to attend the Department Convention, if possible and if selected as the overall Department winner should be willing to attend the National Convention
- A brief narrative of their military service should be included
- A narrative by the nominee, not to exceed 750 words, about “Why I support women’s role in today’s armed forces”
- Entry must have the Nominee’s name, address, Unit Name and Number, and the signature of the Unit President or Past Presidents Parley Chairman
- One applicant for each branch of service (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard) per Unit
- All entries must be post-marked by the deadline date and sent to the Department Past Presidents Parley Chairman.
